Earlier Sunday evening, a ceasefire has come into effect in the besieged enclave at 23:30 local time (20:30 GMT), after talks moderated by Egyptian mediators.
The ceasefire was mediated by Egypt – which has acted as an intermediary between Israel and Gaza in the past – over the course of Sunday.
By Sunday evening, the Palestinian health ministry said that 15 children had been confirmed among the 44 deaths recorded in the latest violence. Gaza’s health ministry has blamed “Israeli aggression” for the deaths of Palestinians and for the more than 300 people wounded.
Gaza Civil Defense affirmed that 9 residential buildings were completely destroyed during the three-day aggression, and more than 1,500 housing units were damaged, of which 16 were completely destroyed.
Since Friday, Israel has carried out heavy aerial and artillery bombardment of besieged Gaza, targeted heavy crowded residential neighborhoods.
Commenting on the events, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process expressed concern over the Israeli escalation in Gaza Strip.
Deeply concerned by the ongoing escalation between Palestinian militants & Israel, including the targeted killing today of a PIJ leader inside Gaza. Don’t let the situation slide into the avoidable, Tor Wennesland said.
