EBN – George Clooney, 63, appeared on the Tuesday, Feb. 18 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about his upcoming Broadway play “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
While speaking with host Stephen Colbert, 60, Clooney shared that his son Alexander, 7, is really into playing chess and participates in tournaments. The Ticket to Paradise actor uses his son’s losses in the game to teach him a life lesson.
“He’s 7 years old, [and] playing a lot of older kids,” Clooney told Colbert. “He’s not winning all the time, as you can imagine. And he gets upset and I said, ‘Listen, you shake the guy’s hand and say good game, I’ll get you next time.’ And, that’s kind of how you got to live by those rules.”
Following Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney’s, 47, Italian wedding in 2014, the pair welcomed twins Alexander and Ella, 7, in June 2017. Since the birth of the twins, the Clooneys have been very discerning about choosing work projects to ensure Alexander and Ella take priority.
“In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself,” Clooney told PEOPLE. “It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”
In December 2023, Clooney spoke with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan about raising twins — and what came as a big surprise to him.
“When you have twins and you’re raising [them] the same time, the same way, and they’re completely different human beings, you realize how little say you have in who they are,” he said. “They come out with an opinion, and it’s amazing to watch how different my kids’ personalities are.”
