Cardiff , Europe Brief News – Majority of households in Wales will get a £150 payment as a part of a plan to tackle the increasing cost of living.
Rebecca Evans, Wales Minister for Finance and Local government said “The government is more than doubling the equivalent support provided by the UK Government for those most in need, as it aims to ensure no one is left behind”.
The Welsh government seemed concerned with the rising cost of living and made an announcement to elaborate its plans to help people during these difficult times.
The Welsh government will provide £150 as cost of living payment and an extra £200 for low income households for fuel payment during the winter season.
The £150 will be distributed among all households coming under the council tax band A-D and for those in receipt of the council tax reduction scheme of all bands.
Payments To Be Released Soon
The Government also mentioned that they are in the processing phase and working with local authorities to announce proper details on the scheme and people will start to receive their payments soon.
The Government further added that they are planning to add £100 million more to build other schemes to facilitate people during the time of crisis.
They will add more funds with the help of discretionary assistance funds which will be more than handy for people to pay for essential costs such as food, electricity, clothing and emergency travel.
Evans said “People are facing a real cost-of-living crisis and urgent meaningful action is needed”.
At the start of this month, Chancellor Rishi Sunak made a huge announcement that the households will be receiving £350 who are especially struggling to pay their energy bills due to high inflation.
The Treasury has shared that the devolved governments in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland will receive an amount of £565 million extra to strengthen the current schemes and to be able to help more people.
Jane Hutt, Minister for Social Justice in Wales said “The funding that we are announcing today will ensure more people will get more support in what are challenging times for so many families in Wales”.
She further added that the government’s main focus is to address the ongoing crisis and will keep thinking about the possible solutions to reach out more and more people for help.
