London, Europe Brief News – Instagram has launched a new parental supervision tools for accounts held by teenagers in the UK.
The new tools will allow parents to oversee their profile, set daily use limits and see who they follow and who follows them.
First launched in the US in March, the tools are now being expanded to the UK and Ireland for the first time.
These new features will require a parent to send an invitation to their teenager to initiate the supervision of their account.
Once this has been accepted, the parent will be able to set daily limits for how long their child can spend on the app and schedule breaks for specific times.
In addition, the tech giant is rolling out a parent dashboard on all Quest virtual reality headsets worldwide.
Parents can now invite their children to activate the supervision tools – previously these could only be initiated by the young person.
The new VR controls include purchase approval, app blocking and the option to view their child’s friends’ lists.
Another Instagram feature being trialled is a nudge tool which prompts teens to look for different subjects, if they are repeatedly searching for the same thing.
Instagram is officially for young people aged 13 and over, and Meta says its Oculus VR content is also designed for teens and above – although there are younger children using both platforms.
