Russia confirmed on Sunday that it had intercepted at least ten Ukrainian drones launched towards the Crimean Peninsula near Sevastopol, the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which had previously been targeted in similar attacks.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the air defences had downed two drones and disrupted five others through jamming systems.
The ministry also confirmed the destruction of two naval drones belonging to the Ukrainian army.
The statement added, “There were no casualties or damages after the foiling of this terrorist attack.”
In a Telegram post, the governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, reported that a tenth drone was intercepted over the Black Sea using electronic jamming systems.
Sevastopol serves as the main port for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Since the start of the attack on Ukraine in February 2022, Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014, has been subjected to drone attacks both from the air and sea.
