EBN- Although Nicole Kidman’s mother passed away about a month ago, specifically on the closing day of the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, her funeral was not held during this period.
But it was held today in a simple family presence, amid sadness that prevailed over all those present, headed by Kidman, her sister and her children, who appeared to have not yet overcome the initial shock of the death of their mother and grandmother, and are still in a state of mourning and deep sadness.

Nicole Kidman , who appeared sad and exhausted at her mother Janelle’s funeral today in Sydney , specifically at St. Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay, received clear support from her husband, Australian singer Keith Urban.
Kidman , 57, held hands with her husband, 56, as she arrived at the church in a long black coat and black sunglasses, and the couple were also joined by their daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14, as well as Nicole’s sister Antonia, 54.
Nicole’s two older children, Bella and Connor, whom she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise, did not appear to be in attendance.
During an emotional moment ahead of Janelle’s funeral, who died aged 84, Sunday was seen wiping away tears as she grieved throughout the service.
She was comforted by her cousins Lucia, 26, Hamish, 23, and Sibella Hawley, 17, who are the children of Kidman’s sister Antonia with her late husband Angus Hawley.
Kidman’s family was joined by close friends, including Australian TV presenter Richard Wilkins, 69, his make-up artist girlfriend Mia Hawkswell, 47, and media personality Peter Overton, his wife Jessica Rowe, and their daughters Allegra and Gisele. Notably, no celebrities attended the funeral.
Nicole Kidman’s mother dies
Nicole Kidman was absent from the closing ceremony of the Venice Film Feastival 2024, on September 7 , due to the death of her mother hours before she received the Best Actress award at the ceremony for her role in the drama “Baby Girl”.
Kidman, 57, was absent from the ceremony and was unable to accept the award for Best Actress, but she did entrust the task of reading her speech to the film’s director, Halina Regin, who accepted the award on her behalf and revealed that Nicole’s mother, Janelle, passed away at the age of 83 while Nicole was in Venice.
The star said in her speech: “Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful and courageous mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has passed away.”
She added: “I am in shock and I need to be with my family, but this award is for her. She was the one who inspired me, guided me, and made me who I am.”
“I am so grateful that I can mention her name to all of you through Halina. The collision of life and art is so painful, and my heart is broken.” She concluded her speech by saying: “We love you all”
