Mattel, the manufacturer of the beloved Barbie doll, has signed numerous agreements to produce fashion, accessories, and beauty products inspired by the Barbie universe. Notable collaborations include partnerships with global brands like Gap, Microsoft, Forever21, Ulta Beauty, Hot Wheels, Chevrolet, Victoria’s Secret, and Zara.
Experts have attributed this surge of interest in the Barbie world across various sectors to the film’s release. It is perfect marketing material as Barbie represents a unique lifestyle and boasts its signature colour.
It’s the vibrant pink shade embodied by Pantone219C on the Pantone colour chart. Interestingly, one of the film’s production managers revealed that the extensive use of pink paint in the movie’s sets had caused a global shortage of this colour.
The Barbie doll-inspired lifestyle is known as “Barbiecore,” characterized by refreshing colours and the 1960s lifestyle, the era in which Barbie Millicent Roberts (Barbie’s full name) was born in 1959.
The film premiered this week in the United States and Europe, with box office projections expecting revenues to reach up to $75 million during its first week. Meanwhile, audiences in the Middle East can anticipate the movie’s release in August.
Australian star Margot Robbie embodies the role of Barbie in the film, while Ryan Gosling plays her companion, Ken. During the movie’s promotional tours, Robbie dazzled in a series of Barbie-inspired fashions, donning the signature looks of renowned fashion houses such as Chanel, Versace, Valentino, Balmain, Emilio Pucci, and Vivienne Westwood, complemented by an array of accessories and jewellery.
