Kyiv, Europe Brief News – Kyiv’s cyber watchdog agency claimed that Ukrainian websites have been under constant attack from Russian hackers since the time Moscow launched an attack on the country.
Ukraine’s State Services Special Communication and Information Protection tweeted “Russian hackers keep on attacking Ukraine Information resources nonstop”.
The Agency suggests that sites belonging to the Presidency, Parliament, the Ministry of defence, the Cabinet and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were among those hit by distributed denials of service (DDoS).
Distributed denial of Services work by directing firehose of traffic towards targeted servers in a bid to knock them offline.
Some of the Russian sites have also been under the DDoS attacks as Ukraine called on its hackers underground to assist in shielding the country’s critical infrastructure and conduct cyber spying missions against Russian forces.
Russian Nationals Coordinating Centre for Computer Incidents claimed that Russian information resources are under massive computer attacks in the last few days.
Conti Ransomware group
The rift between hackers of two countries is not something new as previously one of the Ukrainian citizens leaked the chat logs of a Russian based Conti ransomware group.
An online insider leaked the chat logs that were critical against the idea of supporting Vladimir’s Putin on Ukraine invasion. The leak contained 400 files of tens of thousands of chat logs from January 2021.
The leaker said in a statement “ Fuck the Russian government and Glory to Ukraine”.
The gang offers ransomware as a service, the customer purchasing access to its attack facilities. As per reports, the group has gotten an estimated amount of $30 million in ransomware payments to date.
There are high chances that the ransomware gang has secretly partnered with Russian intelligence as chat logs suggest a chain of command between the group and Russian agencies.
On 25 February, the group shared a message saying they are supporting Putin on his invasion of Ukraine.
The Ransomware gang posted a blog saying “ If anybody decides to organise a cyber attack or any war activities against Russia, we are going to use all possible resources to strike back at the critical infrastructure of an enemy”.
Since Conti supports Russia, Other ransomware groups have started to work under one umbrella to support Ukraine. IT army has also decided to play its part to support Ukraine and strengthen its position to defend against cyber attacks.
