London, Europe Brief News – Britain’s TikTok Star Sam Ryder will represent the UK for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest on Mai 2022.
The Essex-based singer-songwriter, whose covers have been praised by stars including Justin Bieber, Sia and Alicia Keys, will perform his viral song Space, Man! at the contest in Turin, Italy.
The decision was first announced on BBC Radio 1 by the presenter Greg James. He further urged fans to “get behind” Ryder’s song.
Both the management company Tap Music and the BBC have selected him to represent the UK.
The singer will perform the track Space Man in the grand final in Turin, Italy, in May.
Ryder found fame covering songs on TikTok during lockdown. He has so far accumulated 12 million followers on the video-sharing platform.
Sharing the news on his Twitter account, Sam Ryder said: “Who heard the news!??? ABSOLUTELY BONKERS AAAHHHHH!!!”
Italian rock group Maneskin has won last year’s contest, held in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The competition’s producers recently announced that Russia will no longer participate this year following the invasion of Ukraine.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said in a statement that the inclusion of a Russian entry in Turin would bring the contest into “disrepute”.
