Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is not suspending his presidential campaign, according to his communications director.
A report from Axios noted that the senator has no active Facebook advertisements on the morning after three more primary losses. It claimed that a pause in Facebook spending “has been a good indicator that candidates are dropping out of the 2020 race before,” citing the examples of former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and ex-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
A reporter for another outlet repackaged the story in a one-line Twitter post, saying Axios was reporting Sanders was suspending his campaign.
The post prompted a response by Mike Casca, communications director for the campaign. “Absolutely false,” he wrote.
Sanderss campaign earlier in the day said the senator “is going to be having conversations with his supporters to assess his campaign.”
