Riyadh, Europe Brief News – Saudi Arabia’s mountains have turned a lush green colour following heavy rainfalls that fell on the Gulf kingdom in recent weeks.
In videos shared on social media, the mountainous region surrounding the holy city can be seen covered in greenery and plants, a far cry from its usual dry and arid nature.

Several parts of the kingdom have seen arid landscapes turning green, particularly in western Saudi Arabia. The growth of vegetation, brought on by warm weather as well as the rain, has been caught in satellite images provided by NASA.
The unusual sight of the mountains drew the attention of the Mecca region’s official Twitter account, which subsequently posted the videos of the city’s new greenery, garnering thousands of views on social media.

The Gulf kingdom experienced heavy rainfall and flooding in western and central parts of the country in recent weeks, prompting cities to be plunged under water.
Reports indicated that portions of Mecca City were flooded, resulting in traffic disruptions. Authorities have warned residents to avoid going outdoors unless necessary. Due to heavy rainfall, the tunnels in Jeddah City are temporarily closed as a precaution. Several education institutions suspended classes Dec. 12.
