EBN- Football fans and fans of fast-paced songs are gearing up for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Copa America as Colombian superstar Shakira has been confirmed to perform.
The official website of the Copa America football tournament shared a post confirming that Shakira will perform at the tournament’s final ceremony next Sunday, July 14, and the Waka Waka singer will take the stage during the first half of Sunday’s match.
The caption for the post, which features a photo of Shakira leading a group of players including Argentina’s Messi, read: “The Colombian star will be the official artist of the Copa America Grand Final. Get ready for a great experience in a show that will shake the continent!”
“ Shakira is an extraordinary star in South America, who has amazed the whole world,” said Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American Football Confederation, in a statement on Tuesday. “Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, turning her art into a global phenomenon that crosses borders and is enjoyed by millions of people. We are certain that her performance at the Copa América USA 2024 will reinforce the message of healthy passion and unity through sport.”
It is noteworthy that Shakira’s performance in the 2024 Copa America final is not her first on the green fields, but she has previously presented many concerts for many football tournaments over the years.
In 2006, she performed during the World Cup Final in Berlin. But 2010 was the year she was most famous and still remembered with her song “Waka Waka”, which became the anthem of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. She also composed and performed the song La La La for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
