EBN- Social media sites were abuzz with pictures of the young Martinican, Angelique Angarne-Villobon, after she won the French beauty crown in its 95th edition, in a ceremony held in the city of Poitiers, in the south of the country, due to the conditions for her participation in this event, and her being over 34 years old.
A flight attendant was able to win the crown, thanks to an amendment to the law that allows women over the age of 24, married women, or mothers to participate in the competition. In addition, it is the first time since the competition was launched about a hundred years ago that an actress from the French island of Martinique has won the title.
The 34-year-old was crowned Miss France, who went viral on social media, becoming the oldest contestant to win the competition. Introducing herself to the jury in a room packed with more than 4,000 people, she said she represented a large group of women who believe their time has passed.
In 2011, a 20-year-old girl was crowned first runner-up of Miss Martinique. Today, the same young woman, now 34 years old, stands before you to once again represent Martinique, the expatriates and all the women who were once told that it was too late,” said Angelique after winning the contest broadcast on TF1.
Thirty candidates, including doctors, competed in the competition, which saw them parade in swimsuits and then in costumes representing the traditions of their regions, to the sound of several types of music, including country music and pieces by Mozart.
As a result of winning the competition, Angelique Ungarni-Villobon will receive a one-year salary from the competition’s foundation, in addition to valuable gifts from sponsors.
