Stockholm, Europe Brief News – Joe Rogan has made things pretty difficult for Spotify, but the streaming app does not seem willing to part ways with famous podcast host.
The popular podcast host Joe Rogan was mainly criticized for his anti-coronavirus vaccine remarks and use of racial language.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said “Rogan’s racist language was incredibly hurtful and that the host was behind the removal of dozens of episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
He further added that he highly criticize what joe has said and totally agree with his decision on the removal of all the past episodes from our platform.
He also said that he does not believe that silencing Joe is the answer to all that happened.
Joe Rogan has dented Spotify reputation as some of its musicians including Neil young and India, arie have drawn their content from the streaming service in the protest.
Spotify paid $100 million to exclusively host Joe Rogan’s podcast which is now threatening its own credibility.
Daniel EK wrote in a letter “we should have clear lines around the content and take action when they are crossed but cancelling voices is a slippery slope”
He also said that he was immensely feel bad for the kind of impact it has made on Spotify’s employees. Rogan apologized on Saturday for the inappropriate use of the N-word on some of his past episodes.
In his letter, Ek also announced an investment of $100 million to license, market and develop music and audio content from a historically marginalized group.
The pressure was started to mount on Rogan from the public on Jan 24 when young asked for the removal of his music where he found promoting scepticism about the Covid’19 vaccine.
Once it happened, the other artists started to chip in including Joni Mitchell and Roxane Gay. Spotify stated that it would be soon adding warning protocols to all the podcasts that discuss Covid’19.
It will be helpful in providing the listener with factual, up-to-date information from public health experts.
Rogan apologized in his Instagram video accepting that racial slurs were the most regretful and shameful thing he has ever done.
Ek Daniel told the wall street journal that he take full responsibility from his end for being a tad too slow for taking an action to make things right.
