EBN- US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his inauguration next month, signalling an attempt to ease diplomatic tensions despite his previous threats to impose high tariffs on Chinese goods.
Trump’s incoming press secretary, Carolyn Levitt, confirmed Thursday that Trump has invited Xi Jinping. “The invitation will be confirmed” if the Chinese president , one of the United States’ top economic and military rivals, attends the ceremony, Levitt said.
In an interview with Fox News, Levitt said: “This is an example of President Trump’s desire to open a dialogue with leaders of countries that are not only our allies, but also our adversaries and competitors.
We saw that during his first term, he always sought to communicate with anyone, while emphasizing that America’s interests are the priority,” she added.
President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be inaugurated next month, beginning a handover from President Joe Biden, who will step down after his first term ends and he drops out of the race for a second term.
