A bilateral meeting is scheduled to be held today between Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell.
The meeting came ahead of the EU summit slated for June 24-25.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry statement, the meeting will review “steps that can be taken to enhance cooperation with the EU based on Turkey’s accession perspective, as well as global and regional developments will also be discussed.”
On 25 June, EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss COVID-19, economic recovery, migration and external relations, including relations with Turkey and Russia.
The European Council will take stock of the epidemiological and vaccine situation and pursue coordination efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, leaders will address any remaining obstacles related to the right of free movement across the EU.
They are expected to discuss the recommendation on the economic policy of the euro area.
The leaders will also resume discussions on relations with Turkey.
