KABUL/WASHINGTON, Europe Brief News – The United States has abruptly ended all the meetings with the Taliban over the issue of women education. Earlier this meeting was planned in Doha to address key economic issues. The Islamists of Afghanistan are reversing the decision that allows girls to attend high school.
With the cancellation of talks, it is evident that the Taliban doesn’t want to move ahead with this plan. Their recent move on human rights will directly impact the willingness of the international community. It doesn’t seem everyone will try to help the Taliban group for now. Most leaders are under US sanctions which makes things even more challenging.
The decision comes across as a disappointing act and will take away the commitment given to the Afghan people. However, the international community may get affected too. According to a US state department spokesperson, they have canceled all their prior engagements. The first planned meeting was about to take place in Doha.
US Cancelation Plans With Taliban Over Women Education Disappoints Afghanis
As the US has planned to cancel the meeting with the Taliban in Doha it comes across disappointing for many. Women must attend high school and get high-quality education to stand on their feet. The series of meetings between US Taliban officials were initially taking place, it emphasizes education. Even the summit in Qatar’s capital was to take place along with a new meeting.
The representative of the United Nations and World Bank representatives plan to take a part in it. Due to the intense reaction of the Taliban over human rights, this meeting will not happen altogether. This extremity by the Taliban will not only harm the Afghan people and the potential economic growth of the country.
If they want to improve their relationship with the international community, it will be important to change their ways. Many US officials are standing firm with Afghan girls and their families. They see education as the right path for women. In this way, the society and economy can easily take a turn in Afghanistan.
The joint statement made by the ministers of Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Norway, and the US has the same views. Even the high representative of the European Union also believes that this decision will only harm the prospects of legitimacy among the Group. As Taliban don’t seem to give any importance to women education, the schools will remain shut. Afghan girls are eager to join their schools and will hope things can get better.
