London, Europe Brief News – The United Nations (UN) Climate change conference (COP26) was held in Scotland which gathered some of the notable personalities from Uk to speak about their vision and efforts to fight against climate change.
The top leaders from different countries made certain commitments in the conference to show their concerns in the fight against climate change. A prominent figure of the British royal family, Prince Charles of Wales said that climate change and biodiversity loss is becoming a global issue and it is a sign for us to take urgent action to save humanity from a big loss.
Some of the news agencies who were independent of the British press targeted the family’s private flights after the calls from the royal family. It explained how travelling via plane adds negatively to climate change.
The Queen of England Elizabeth II and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge during their speech at the Conference were busy sending messages to the world leaders to take serious actions against the climate changes for our children and children’s children but they were somehow unaware of the fact how they are contributing negatively to the climate change.
After the conference, one of the researchers revealed that the royal family has spent £13.5m on their trips over the last 10 years using charter flights and helicopters.
Even research mentioned the countries that they travelled to the most which include Oman, Srilanka, India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, USA, Bahrain, and Mexico.
Doug Parr is a Greenpeace scientist in England who shed light on how private jets are contributing negatively to climate change. He said that travelling on a plane is more polluting than any other means of transport, and private jets are much worse in terms of polluting the climate than scheduled flights”.
Alethea Warrington who works on climate change tackling said that the royal family showing concerns on the environmental issues surely have made people aware to take serious actions to control it but they somehow forgot that their own actions and choice have been destroying the environment.
A total of £13.5m has been spent yet on nearly 2000 trips as per record. It was stated that the royal family even uses private helicopters to go from one residence to another In the UK.
