Authorities in Thailand found Barry Leonard Weller after he disappeared for three days in the jungle, northeastern Thailand.
The 72-year-old British man went missing in the jungle after going to visit his friends on a motorbike.
A local hunter found the man on Friday in a forest near Khon Kaen, said Nattapat Tadee, a member of the volunteer search team.
He was sleeping on big rocks after he climbed them attempting to find a way out.
Nattapat said that Weller had not eaten anything during his time in the forest, but drank from small water puddles using grass straws.
Weller appeared in a video walking carefully out of the forest while the rescue team surrounded him.
He was wearing shorts and an open shirt and had no shoes.
He seemed exhausted and had multiple small wounds on his legs, but looked healthy nonetheless.
“Yes, I am wonderfully happy. I have never been so happy in my life,” Weller said.
“My feet are sore, but I am happy. I just admire the work these people are doing. It makes me cry. They are doing a good job,” he continued.
When he reunited with his Thai partner, they got emotional, hugged and wept before thanking the rescue team.
“Thank you, everyone. Thank you to all the teams who kept fighting along with me,” the partner said, holding her hands together in a gesture of respect.
The 49-year-old partner, Tawee, said on the phone that Weller had left his house on Tuesday and did not return.
She said the rain was heavy and her searching efforts were unsuccessful. Tawee informed authorities the following day.
She added that he told her about taking a different route and becoming lost.
Weller is retired and has been living in Thailand for nearly 15 years now, she said.
There are lots of wild animals in Thailand’s jungles, such as tigers, leopards, bears and elephants.
However, the rescue team said the forest where they found Weller was not particularly dangerous.
