EBN- During the interview, host Bret Baier asked Zelensky if he felt he owed Trump an apology for the verbal altercation that occurred between them during a meeting at the White House earlier on Friday, but Zelensky avoided answering directly.
When Baer repeated the question, Zelensky again declined to apologize, saying, “I think we have to be very open and honest, and I’m not sure we did anything wrong.” But he acknowledged that what happened “was not helpful” to either side.
Zelensky said he did not know whether the confrontation with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance was a premeditated trap, as some Democrats have claimed, adding: “It was just a very difficult situation.”
Zelensky added: “Trump said he would be an equal mediator between us and the Russians and I would have liked him to stand by us more. What happened in the White House was not good and I just wanted to be honest.”
He continued, saying: “We want peace, and this is why I am in the United States and visiting President Trump. I do not want us to lose our most important partner, the United States. What happened today was a difficult situation because we were speaking clearly. We are not pressuring the Americans to get their support, but we are only inquiring about it.”
Zelensky added: “There are matters that must be discussed away from the media, with all due respect for democracy and free media.”
Equal Mediator
“It will be difficult to stop Russia without US support,” he said, adding: “Washington wanted the metals deal very much and we are not against it and we just wanted to understand what is related to security guarantees.”
Zelensky arrived at the White House on Friday to sign the metals agreement that several of his ministers had approved earlier this week, and to hold talks with the US side on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
A sharp dispute and verbal exchange broke out under the roof of the Oval Office in the White House between Zelensky and US Vice President J.D. Vance, and the head of the Kiev regime interrupted the US President while he was speaking and argued with him repeatedly.
As they sat in the Oval Office, Trump scolded Zelensky, asking him to be more “grateful,” saying, “You are in no position to tell us how we should feel,” adding, “Your people are very brave, but either you make a deal or we will walk away, and if we walk away, you will fight to the end.”
News agencies reported that Zelensky left the White House “expelled” and without signing the agreement, and the joint press conference scheduled for Trump and Zelensky after the talks were completed was canceled.
