Lionel Messi could arrive at PSG this Monday, as he stated in his farewell conference on Sunday.
As most PSG fans believe, the athlete will be a significant addition to the squad striving to
win the Champions League.
While tens of PSG fans assembled at Le Bourget airport gates waiting to see the 34-year-old coming to Paris, Messi did not show up.
Although Messi reassured that nothing is confirmed, he declared that joining PSG is a “possibility.”
“I gave everything for Barcelona from the first day that I arrived right to the last,” said
Messi in Sunday farewell conference, “I never imagined having to say goodbye.”
He added, “I have still not come to terms with the reality of leaving this club now – I love this club.”
Despite cutting his salary to 50% off to seal the new deal with Barca, La Liga salary
regulations made the process almost impossible. That led to the sudden earth-shaking
news.
Realistically, the only clubs capable of affording Messi’s annual salary are PSG and Man City,
who denied their interest in signing Messi.
The most likely to sign Messi is PSG to afford a deal of 35 million euros.
A promising development in Ligue 1
Reactions towards the soon-coming arrival of Messi varied in France. Marseille’s manager,
Sampaoli, expressed his delight regarding the coming of Messi.
“It would be great for Ligue 1. He’s the best player in the world,” said Sampaoli. “French
football has won a lot and grown a lot in recent seasons.
“Even if he goes to a club other than Marseille, it will be good. Everyone would be riveted
on the championship. It will be an additional motivation for us to play against him.”
Messi joining PSG celebrates a reunion with his friend Neymar, his international teammate,
and di Maria and forms an unstoppable partnership with Kylian Mbappe.
If the deal concludes, Messi will not be the only addition to PSG, as the club already signed
Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma. The club seems to be unbeatable.
Pochettino, PSG manager and the Argentina international, said nothing of this matter.
“There have been lots of rumours.” said Pochettion in a press conference after winning a pre-season match.
