EBN- The Manhattan prosecutor said Tuesday he would agree to delay sentencing of Donald Trump, giving them time to consider the president’s motion to dismiss the hush money case.
In a letter to Judge Juan Merchan, the attorney general’s office also acknowledged that it is unlikely to sentencing Trump “until after the defendant’s next presidential term.” But the attorney general says Trump’s felony conviction must stand.
These developments culminate in a historic and unprecedented shift in Trump’s legal and political fate.
A year ago, Trump was facing four separate indictments.
Now, as he prepares to retake the White House, Trump’s lawyers’ strategy of trying to push all of his cases past the 2024 election has proven largely successful, with the two federal cases nearing completion, the Georgia case long deadlocked and the New York case poised to end without a verdict.
Trump was indicted in May on 34 counts, including falsifying business records, over payments made to his then-lawyer Michael Cohen to pay $130,000 in cash to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her from speaking out about an alleged affair before the 2016 election. Trump has denied the charges.
In a statement, Trump spokesman Stephen Cheung called the incident “a complete and final victory for President Trump.
