London, Europe Brief News- The price of filling up your vehicle is rising in Wales and throughout the UK, barely three months after the government lowered fuel duty. On Tuesday, petrol and diesel were above £2 per liter in south Wales. Let’s review why petrol fuel prices are rising so quickly worldwide.
Why Are Petrol Fuel Prices So High?
The prolonged crisis in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in February hasn’t helped boost oil prices. Companies are breaking relations with Russia, the world’s third-largest oil supplier, and the RAC says that gas prices are largely impacted by:
- Oil prices
- Oil supply/demand
- The capacity of oil refineries
- As refined petroleum is sold in US dollars per metric tonne, the pound-to-dollar exchange rate
- Transport fees
- Gas station margin
- Government-imposed gasoline duty is 52.95p/l.
- VAT on forecourt gasoline transactions is 20%.
Higher oil prices imply higher fuel and diesel costs, but we also pay more tax. RAC says: “The amount of tax we pay depends on pump pricing. With petrol at 120p a liter, 65% is tax. At £1 a liter, the government gets 75p from every liter sold. Together with VAT, car tax, and showroom tax, motorists pay more than £40bn a year to the government.

Taxes paid when we fill up our vehicles don’t entirely explain why certain garages charge more per liter than others. Euro Garages, which runs the Esso station at Pont Abraham, has not responded.
Moto Hospitality acknowledged rising gasoline expenses. Fuel price includes oil price and taxes. Several variables affect fuel costs at rest stops.
Fuel Prices Rising
Last week, wholesale oil prices rose 6%. As a company, we had put off transferring these price increases onto consumers in recent days with the expectation that prices would reduce. However, no such price reduction has happened, and we have started reflecting some, but not all, of the higher wholesale costs in our forecourt pricing.
Moto aims to slash highway gasoline costs sustainably and significantly reduce what motorists spend. Our digital gasoline sign rollout will lower rates by 15p a liter, putting us in line with the high street. Moto Hospitality’s Leigh Delamere East and West and Lancaster North and South locations install digital fuel signs. Moto aims to spread out the signs throughout the UK.

Why Are Diesel Pieces Now Like Petrol?
According to AutoExpress, cheap diesel from Saudi Arabia has moved the price of this type of more costly fuel closer to unleaded. The journal argues that getting more diesel than petrol from Russia would tip the pendulum.
The Takeaway!
In Wales and throughout the UK, there are demands for more to be done to keep petrol fuel prices under control. The cost of fueling a 55-liter family vehicle with petrol has reached £98 for the first time in history as a liter touched 178.5p on Monday. Diesel reached 185.2p, bringing a tank’s price to £101.86.
“With economists predicting oil to average $135 a barrel for the remainder of the year, drivers can expect average gasoline costs to soar to £2 a liter, or £110 every fill-up. As China eases its Covid limits and America and Europe enter peak summer driving season, global oil consumption rises. Combined with a lower pound, merchants pay more for wholesale gasoline.
